Anita Sto
Anita Sto is an Italian conceptual artist, who works in different media such as drawings, paintings, analog and digital photographs (sometimes used to make stop-motion videos) and performances. Anita started out as an illustrator and worked for several years in printmaking, graphic art and drawing, combining the narrative potential of images with short texts. In 2008, when she moved to New York City, Anita began to work exclusively with black and white colors. Since then, the artist’s body of work turned into a more minimalist visual communication, totally devoted to represent and present concepts and feeling drawn from her personal life. In 2010 Anita worked on a one year-long performance, an experiment with duration and endurance, which consisted in avoiding looking at her own image in any mirror or other reflective surface. “The intention of the 365 days performance was to find how and where the Self acts, besides the pure objectiveness of visual images but through feelings, impressions and considerations” Anita asserts. This work represented an experience which marked and defined Anita’s conceptual approach in making forms of expression that merge physical and visual experiences. Anita currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
