Solo

Solo aka Flavio Carbonaro was born and raised in Rome. His passion for art began in the nineties when he discovered Graffiti Writing and in the 00s he started doing Street Art himself.  Solo graduated at the Rome Academy of Fine Arts in 2008. His thesis, a dissertation on American artist Ronnie Cutrone, has been published and is now part of the historic archive of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. Solo featured in numerous group and solo shows, both in Italy and abroad. These include: "Scala Mercalli" (2008) a group exhibition curated by Gianluca Marziani at the Auditorium, in Rome; a video mapping project for The Butcher, a video production studio in London (2010);  a live painting performance for Viennart held at MACRO, the Rome Museum of Contemporary Art (2011). In December 2011 he had his first all-inclusive solo show at exhibition space Garage Zero, in Rome. Solo's art is rooted in comics and street art. Through his straightforward and vibrant style he creates, represents and re-elaborates a wide range of subjects: from comic books characters to everyday objects, landscapes, cityscapes and masterpieces of the past. Solo throws his subjects into a fantastic world, adding a new chapter to their history. His paintings both subtly and obviously reveal emotional and experiential paths that the artist hopes people would recognize themselves into. Solo usually starts his creative process with acrylic color drawings. Then he adds layers of different materials and media, from oil painting, to chalk, coffee, food and other things that inspire him at the very moment of creation.
